Hamilton Studio School's Young Art Programs are designed to provide a strong foundation in visual arts learning at each developmental stage from elementary school age, through middle school to high school . Well-balanced learning addresses core areas in the visual: design and composition, observation and representation, materials and process, visual narrative, and formal elements and principles.
Our projects and exercises are tailored to each class and promote creative engagement through hands-on learning.
At Young Artists' Studio we do a combination of exploratory exercises and developed projects. We do painting and drawing from observation and imagination; printmaking; visual narrative (books, comics, graphic novel sequences); and mixed media 2 and 3-dimensional works.
Yes. Specific projects change, but, just as in sport, music and dance, it is important to review and practice core skills over time; students need overlap in the learning from year to year.
Fun and enjoyment are true benefits!
In addition, the core skills acquired in our programs-- visualization, planning, process, observation, creative thought and sensitivity, etc-- are skills that will support children's growth in many other fields.
Research shows that engaging in art promotes positive neurological development, enhancing cognitive function, and encouraging focus, calm and emotional well-being.
Some children will become artists one day, others will pursue a future informed by art--illustration, animation, architecture, design, game design, marketing, museum studies, philanthropy and much, much more--give them time to prepare and discover their artistic voice!
